Please read! I can give you a great tan, but it's ultimately up to you how well it looks and how long it lasts - by following these tips, you have the best recipe for the longest lasting tan.
Before your tan:
Manicures, pedicures, facials, massages, waxing and hair appointments should all be done prior to your tanning appointment.
Exfoliation is the most important step to a successful airbrush tan. With a circular motion, exfoliate your skin with exfoliating gloves. Do not use a loofah! Do not use a sugar or salt scrub the day of as it will leave an oil residue. If you do use it the day before, make sure you shower before your tan.
Any shaving or waxing should be done at least 12-24 hours prior to your appointment. Shaving too close to your tanning session can result in speckled legs as the solution can rest in the open hair shaft. Also, a razor with a moisturized strip can leave a film on your legs.
Skin should be clean before your airbrush tanning session. Do not use lotion, moisturizer, oils or makeup…anything that can block absorption of your tan. Do not use Dove soap as it leaves a film. If possible, do not wear deodorant.
EXCEPTION....! If you have VERY dry skin on certain areas of your body (feet, knees.elbows... etc) please put a thin layer of moisturizer on those areas approximately 4 hours before your appointment. Otherwise, flaky skin can sometimes result in an 'alligatorish' tan or fade quickly.
Wear dark, loose fitting clothing to your appointment. A dark swimsuit, underwear or disposable thong (provided) works for the tanning. A little solution will get on your garments, but this will wash out. Although, in some cases, the solution has been known to stain elastic.
After your tan:
Continue wearing your dark, loose fitting clothing for at least six to eight hours. Avoid socks and tight fitting shoes.
I also advise not putting a bra on right after the tanning session as the garment is tight on your skin and has the tendency to rub.
Do not get wet for at least seven hours (although the longer you wait - up to 24 hours, the darker the tan will be). This includes showers, exercise, swimming, saunas or any other activities that may get your skin wet or cause you to sweat. Is it raining the day of your appointment - bring an umbrella!
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! This is the secret to a long tan! I'm talking once if not twice a day. Do not use mineral oil. I sell wonderful moisturizers if you need one.
When showering, only use your hands and soap (important places only) for washing. Cooler water causes less exfoliation. Pat yourself dry with a towel post-shower. Do not rub!
A tip - do not sit on the toilet immediately after an airbrush tan (wait at least 15 minutes) or you may end up with lighter rear thighs!
